What Students Learn at the Bedside
Clinical exposure is structured year-wise according to the INC/KU curriculum. Across rotations, students develop competence in:
- Patient assessment, vital monitoring, and documentation.
- Administration of medications, IV therapy, and wound management.
- Pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
- Antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn care.
- Care of the critically ill — ICU, casualty, emergency response.
- Mental-health interventions and therapeutic communication.
- Health education, family planning, and immunization in community settings.
Clinical Conduct Expectations
Students at clinical postings are expected to maintain:
- Full uniform with name badge and dignified appearance.
- Punctuality and full attendance during posting hours.
- Patient confidentiality and ethical conduct at all times.
- Respect for senior nurses, doctors, hospital staff, and patients' families.
Clinical performance is evaluated through internal assessments, viva-voce, observation rubrics, case studies, and end-of-posting examinations as per the affiliating university's scheme.
The bedside is where nursing science becomes nursing practice. Every shift is a lesson in both technique and humanity.
